Default Autometer gauges

Now since my engine is back up and running im alittle worried about the oil pressure and temp. My stock guages only have warning lights so im going to get 2 autometer gauges to monitor this better. Can i still have my stock gauges work and the new temp gauge and oil pressure gauge hooked up as well. Also if someone could let me know what wiring and/or sending units i need to get to have everything set up right. Also a good place online to order all this from.

I don't suppose if you get a blank 65gt/66 style gauges you can put in whatever you want? It would take modification?

I did a quick search and it doesn't look like the sending units for a warning light type of setup is the same as a guage style. You can probably run both, but it would require some electrical know-how of the system for you to rig something up. Any Mustang vendor would sell the sending units for guages. I have attached a link to the oil sending unit from cjponyparts.com. I've had great experience with them in the past and they are always offering discounts and free shipping. You may also need the oil sending unit extension housing if you don't already have one. A search for the temp sending unit brought up two different sizes. You'll have to do a little more research to figure out which one is the correct one for your car.

If you're going with new Autometer guages, I'd recommend going with mechanical guages. They are usually more accurate. When you buy guages from Autometer they typically come with the correct sending unit. Good luck!

thanks smitty. Yea since the light and gauge sending units both attach in the same place I am thinking it would be a little difficult to use both unless I have some sort of adapter. Do you have any experience with the mechanical gauges? It seems a little weird having oil pressure come into the car.

I originally had mechanical guages in my car, but went back to electrical when I installed all new wiring in my car. It was nothing having the oil pressure catheter in my car. It was a very small catheter with very little oil in the tube. I never had any issues with it leaking or anything like that. I'm not convinced my electrical guages are as accurate sometimes. I don't think it has anything to do with the guages; Autometer is top notch. I just don't have the same confidence in my original style sending units. It's probably nothing though.
