No they don't wear out faster. They have a steel insert where the clutch rides. The good ones are rebuildable and have removeable weights so they fit any application. No you won't loose any torque, that is a myth. I wouldn't worry about a flywheel coming apart and killing you, its the clutch that will kill you. Any manual transmission car that is abused needs a steel safety bellhousing. Anyone that doesn't use a safety bellhousing might as well go play russian roulette. A Fidanza flywheel is SFI approved and is much stronger and more durable than a factory steel flywheel.
