Default 1968 Mustang, Help needed

Just bought it, and have a few questions about it.

1. Where is the tranny dipstick? I can not seem to find it?

2. How do you fix a horn on it? I press the button and it wont go off, When I first tried it wanted to and it was heard real faint but nothing now?

3. What are some things you would do to it performence wise?

Do you know what size engine you have? I think for either the 289 or 302 the tranny dipstick should be in the back left corner of the engine. You should be able to see it curve down into the engine. The engine oil dipstick is in the front left of the engine.

There could be several reasons the horn is not working. That is a common problem. You should first check if you even have the horns still. They should be in front of the radiator support. If they are there, then the usually problem is with the wiring in the steering wheel. Do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? The connections underneath the steering wheel sometimes break.

A good performance modifications is an upgraded carb and intake manifold, exhaust setup, headers, cams and if you want to spend a little more you can replace the heads with some performance heads. A good carb and intake is a good place to start.

Thanks for the reply,

As I am aware I have a 200 in it. Nothing special but plan to improve that.

My horns are there, They wanted to sound before and it was real faint, now nothing. I am thinking its a fuse? and the wheel looks original, the car only has 6k miles on it.

I am not too familiar with the 6 cylinders but I believe the dipstick should still be in the back left.

It may be a fuse that will be a good place to start. I am not sure where the fuse box is on the 67-68 but on the 65-66 it is above the driver kick panel.

Do you have any pictures of the new stang?

The mustang looks good! Very clean

I watched the clip and it is a little difficult to hear. If it needs to be jumped then it sounds like it could be an electrical problem.

If it was the starter than it would have issues engaging the flywheel when starting up. It would either not engage at all or partially engage or only engage for a little bit. When you turn the key can you tell if the engine is cranking over? If the starter doesnt engage than it will probably make a loud whine as it is spinning but not turning the engine.

To fix that it usually may be a bad ground connection somewhere. If you have a volt meter you can check the voltage at the battery as well to make sure it is charged and supplying the starter with power. It should read 12V and almost 14V when running.

If it is the voltage regulator, battery, or alternator you can take it to a local auto parts place depending on where you live (kragens, oreilly, napa) and they should be able to check each of those for you.

Yea everyone is tellin me it may be the starter, I checked my alternator but running the car and taking the battery out, it still ran. I am gunna take the starter in tomorrow as soon as possible. It was working fine, I am kind of new to a stick shift and i dont think thats the problem but idk what else to check? The starter is spinning and not turning the engine also.

Sounds like the starter. Ive had to replace a few in the past on 65/66 mustangs. They definitely have their fair share of issues.

Any updates though?
