Default Dropping Weight off S-197's

My car with 15" skinnies and 15" drag wheels in the rear weighs right near 3310lbs. I have:

K-member
A-arms
front swaybar delete
driveshaft
passanger seat removed

To go beyond that you are going to have to start going more extreme.

Seibon does make Carbon fiber hoods, doors, and trunk lids for our cars. I have also seen carbon fiber fenders. I am sure those, particularly the doors would save weight. You again run into saftey issues when it comes to the doors and you aren't looking cheap. I have seen the doors go for $2000 or so alone. I may eventually replace as many body panels as possible in an attempt to drop weight, but I will have a cage that protects in lue of the door bars, or lack there of.

Check out this kit from BMR Fabrication, they offer an ultimate weight savings package.

"Weight transfer will no longer be an issue with the ultimate weight savings packages from BMR. We have sourced components from leaders in the industry to create the lightest and highest quality front end setups available. Both kits are designed for racers and while street driving is possible, it is not recommended. Level 1 is the no-fab kit and will drop 94 pounds from the front end! Level 2 goes a step further and converts to manual steering and manual brakes dropping another 25 pounds for a total front end weight loss of 119 pounds! "

I've got the complete BMR package and 1 pc driveshaft, tossed the spare (doesn't fit over the Baers anyway), moved the battery to the trunk and pulled about 5 pounds of wire out of the engine compartment, but that was mostly to get the front end weight back to where it was before adding the blower.

If I wanted to toss some serious weight, I'd spring for some serious wheels. I weighed my original Saleen 7 spokes with 275-35/40 P-Zero's at ~50% tread. Try ~60 and 70 pounds apiece for the fronts / rears. That's roughly 260 pounds of rotating mass. I don't go to the track and only occasionally do some autocross, so it's not a big deal for me.

There is a thread on S197forum.com specifically dealing with how much everything weighs. One of the guys started it and individually weighed every part he was taking off the car and other people have added to it. Check that out here:
How Much Does It Weigh? - WWW.S197FORUM.COM

As a for instance, it lists a complete door with everything but speakers and wiring harness as 81 pounds.

At the time I was in Houston and this was my DD. I clocked my average speed over 1000 miles - 21 MPH! It's tough to notice any kind of difference when you spend most of your time sitting at stoplights and dodging other traffic at 40 MPH.

If you're willing to spend $15k, you can drop 280lbs and get a completely overhauled suspension: Griggs Racing Products

Not to mention the ability to out-handle Corvettes...
