Default S197 Engine Swaps

I've only heard of one guy doing a 5.4 engine swap on his v6 05Mustang. Anyone else doing these? I'd much rather do a 5.4 engine swap than a 4.6. How hard and how available are motors. I think the 5.4 4v would be too expensive but what about the 5.4 3v how costly would it be to do a 5.4 3v engine swap?

What trucks currently come with a 5.4 3v? F150? Exepidition Eddie Baur? Excursion? ????

looks like you could pull a 3V 5.4L with low miles out of a junkyard for under $2,000. I'm sure you can take a bunch of electronics with it as well for that price.

05+ F-150 and Expedition are showing as tow models with the 3V.

3v 5.4's come in '04+ F150s and Expeditions.

However with your turbo kit you will need to redo some of the piping. A 4v swap would require a lot of reengineering of the turbo kit.

Also, the only way to get a 5.4 is with an iron block (add about 150lbs to the nose of your car) unless you want to spend the $3k for an aluminum 5.4 block.

Just stroke your current motor to a 302 or something, turn the boost up, and possibly get a larger turbo (t76). Then you'll have more power than you will know what to do with

There have been a few push-rod engine swaps as well. I know of a few 460's in and a few carb'd BOSS 5.0's used. Also, the worst pushrod swap was in an '05 and it was a 427 stroked and bored LS1

If you could pick up an 04 - 05 3v 5.4 motor for 2K add forged crank, good rods and pistons, then modify the piping on the turbo. Crank up the boost You could have a 1000RWHP motor. If the motors are that cheap why hasnt this been done before. The new GT500 4v motors with 2.8KB is making over 850RWHP. From what I hear the 3v heads flow pretty close to the 4v heads so why arn't we hearing more about this. Are there a lot of modifications needed to make this work? I'm sure we have all heard of the Twin Turbo GT Super Car making 1500RWHP that was a 5.4L 4v. I'd settle for 1000RWHP with a single turbolol.

What kind of modifications would have to be made to the transmission? Would it require that I remove all of the wiring harness and CPU on the expedition or F150? I'm just wondering how expensive of a swap is this?

I have an 04 Eddie Bauer Expedition v8 4.6 but it's only a 2v.

Has anyone seen any threads on swapping a 03/04 Cobra engine into s197 V6 or GT mustang?

I have read that for the 07 model the strut tower was modified to fit the 5.4 4v. Not sure if the same mod is needed for the 4.6 4v Terminator.

If building a high performance project car I was thinking it might be worth starting with the V6 since most of the parts will need to be upgraded from a GT anyway such as the trans and clutch, drive shaft, brakes, radiator, 8.8, springs, sway bars. Also, I saw a 05 V6 on listed on AutoTrader for $12,500 where the lowest priced GT was $19,000. So you can start with ~$6,500 in your budget.
