Default 86 notch questions

ok guys i have found a 4cyl 4peed 86 notch the engine is tired
my question is will the 4 speed fit a 302 with a different bell housing? or should i swap in my c4 trans? i think the driving enjoyment of a stick would be more fun but i am looking at the easy swap factor and low budget aspect also as the 302 is fresh built and the c4 is solid also if its possible what clutch options do you recommend? my budget is about 1000 after buying the car.

nice!! we need pics! I believe the 4 speed should hook up with a different bellhousing. That might be easier than switching from a manual to an automatic. I am sure there is more info out there on 4 cylinder to V8 conversions as well. There might be different motor mounts, stiffer suspension for the weight, radiator, etc. I am sure it is all doable you just want to make sure its all done right the first time.

yes done right but on a budget is where most people get stuck. i just happen to have a good friend that offered me a bell and 5speed turbo trans for $150 so is there anyone that needs a 4speed or a c4 trans with the torque converter? and i think i have the 7.5 rearend with 3.73 gears down the road i will have to swap to a 8.8
on the other side of the coin i went to pay he balance on my 302 and it was not in the shop the owner had sold it. but he had a '87 302 mustang block block and he is boreing it to the same specks for the pistons and crank i had. he told me my block was stamped as a '80 truck motor. can anyone tell me if there is a differance other than the valves being able to convert to roller rockers? also i think my crank was steel soi am going to make sure i dont get cornholed on that.

nice! looks pretty clean both in the interior and exterior.

I dont think you need too much to convert to roller rockers. The engine shop should know and could probably assemble that for you if they are doing your heads as well.

my heads are all done my concern is that i had a steel crank i hope that stays the same. are there any other differences from a 80 truck block to a 87 mustang block? i'm working on getting a 550 cfm demon carb. if not i have a lead on a 700 cfm edelbrock. for 100 bucks

I am sure there are some differences especially between the years. I believed the heads were a big part in the differences between a truck and mustang motor. But with that gap between years I am sure there were some small changes as well. 302 blocks have been around forever. I had some 80s thunderbird block in my 87 mustang with weird heads and was having a lot of trouble figuring out what spark plugs it needed because the heads were definitely not from an 87 mustang.

ok then am i understanding then the Early 5.0 was just a new way of saying 302 and the start of fuel injection. and if that is in fact a true statement then i should be able to put EFI manfold and throttle body on my block
